Summer Breaks on the Coast

Summer Breaks on the Coast

Let us help you with some inspiration for your stay. During your summer stay at Elephant Rock, there are plenty of fantastic activities and experiences to enjoy that showcase the stunning Causeway Coast and the local area.

Local Walks and Hiking

  • Take a scenic walk along the Causeway Coast Way, especially the stretch from Ballintoy Harbor to the Giant’s Causeway. This route offers breathtaking coastal cliffs, sandy beaches, and unique rock formations including the our namesake, the Elephant Rock, near White Park Bay. If you are lucky, you may even catch the cows that regularly graze on the beach.

  • Explore the coastal paths around Dunluce Castle and Mussenden Temple for dramatic sea views and historic sites.

Sunset at the Giant’s Causeway

  • Visit the Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, and catch a spectacular sunset over the iconic hexagonal basalt columns. This is a real bucket list activity and one we recommend adding to any itinerary.

A sundowner on our Ocean View Terrace

  • Enjoy expertly crafted cocktails at the Elephant Rock Hotel’s chic cocktail bar, which offers panoramic ocean views and a sophisticated Art Deco ambiance. Signature drinks like the Elephant Rock 75 make for a perfect sunset or evening treat. Cosy up and watch the world go by on our terrace, which has uninterrupted views over the Atlantic Ocean.

Tired after a long day of exploring?

  • Relax in the comfort of our beautiful boutique rooms. Take advantage of room service and unwind with Netflix, upgrade to a Executive Sea-View Bay room to enjoy the views sitting in the bay window. Champagne and chocolate strawberries optional but recommended. Choose a room with a bath and soak tired muscles after a long day of exploring.

Cold Water Swimming at Arcadia

  • For an invigorating experience, try cold water swimming at Arcadia or other nearby wild swimming spots along the Causeway Coast. Remember to acclimatise slowly to the cold water and bring warm clothing for after your swim. Perfect for those looking to be revitalised, refreshed and connect with nature.

Surf Lessons and Water Sports

  • Join surf lessons with local schools such as Troggs Surf School to ride the waves at Portrush’s blue-flag beaches.

  • Alternatively, take a SUP journey with Revive Northern Ireland, which offers guided paddleboarding tours along serene coastal waters for all skill levels.

  • Thrill seeker? Freedive NI offers incredible opportunities for free diving along the Causeway Coast, swim with seals and explore caves along the beautiful coastline. A bucket list experience and the best way to enjoy everything our coast has to offer.

E-Bike Hire

  • Rent a premium e-bike from Alive Surf School to effortlessly explore the scenic Causeway Coastal Route. Cycle to nearby attractions like Dunluce Castle, Ballintoy, and the Giant’s Causeway while enjoying fresh sea air and stunning views without the strain of hills. We highly recommend this as a greener way to explore the area. Go for full day hire, and you can explore Dunluce Castle, Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, as well as enjoy time to stop for lunch/coffee along the way. We can arrange hire from you, add it as an extra to your booking or ask us at reception.

Sauna Experiences

  • Recent years has seen a phenomenal rise in sauna seekers. With all of the purported mental and physical benefits, saunas by the sea offer the perfect hot and cold experience. Hotbox Sea Sauna on Benone beach is award winning and an exceptional experience. Add a clay mask to your booking for some extra skin benefits. Switch between the sauna and a dip in the ocean to enhance the experience.

  • Aquaholics offers a range of boat rides along Northern Ireland’s stunning North Coast, departing from Portrush harbour. Their trips include cruises to iconic sites such as the Giant’s Causeway, the Skerries, Dunluce Castle, and White Park Bay, providing a unique perspective of these natural and historic landmarks from the sea.
